Casablanca

I agree with the other person who gave "Casablanca" a THUMBS DOWN...Waaay down, in my opinion. I recently watched this piece of "cinematic" garbage and I suffered through every last nano-second of it.

I also agree with the reviewer that the movie's status as "Best movie/screenplay EVER," needs to be reconsidered.

I say this not ONLY because the film is a heap of garbage, I say it too because the art of film has really changed drastically from that time--so much so, that it really can't even legitimately be compared to any film made an era after IT.

Every era has its culture and things it loved and valued, but, we really need to have our OWN BEST FILM ever. Beyond that, as time goes by and more and more films are made, I believe they will keep changing, and hopefully/likely for the better.

Even as the film stands alone, however, I don't think it can stand the test of time. What's more, is, I think that there ARE movies that have been made after it that CAN and WILL stand the test of time.

What about "12 angry men". This movie is so deeply about human nature, and moves us as we watch it, that surely it will speak to future audiences WAY BEYOND the pile of Casablanca (or Titanic!) ever will.

We need a new BEST FILM/SCRIPT EVER...and ditch the status-quo one we have had picked out for us by the "experts."

And, just for the record, I think Roger Ebert is a pretty sharp guy when it comes to writing and analyzing film, which only baffles me even MORE as to why he lauds CASABLANCA... --Jim

hahaha, my friends and i were laughing hard at thiese reviews, i have never seen anyone try to be so different before, stop trying it's not different and you're not intellectuals, it's just lame, stop it, i'm embarassed for you, now go find an argument to argue with me since its so predictable that you will since i 'm attacking your egos.....(sigh...i wish you actually made sense)

I'd argue with you on this, but you haven't actually made an argument. In fact, you didn't even bother to put together a coherent sentence.

Do you have a point? I mean, I'm guessing that you liked Casablanca and you don't like the fact that I didn't like Casablanca. I'm not sure why you felt strongly enough about a simple difference of opinion to post this garbled nonsense on a three-year-old review, but at least you had common sense to be embarrassed about it. I guess that's why it's an anonymous post.

I'll give you points for saving up all your periods and then putting them all together at the end, though. That's pretty funny. Good work.

Can't we just go back to the spirit of the original review? Yes, Casablanca was a bad movie, but the more important point here is that cheese is tasty. Let's all try to remember that as we anonymously post responses to ancient livejournal posts.
